The View from The Shard, Looking East

The View from The Shard, Looking East

I already explained what a struggle it was to photograph from the Shard, the windows were grubby, with highly reflective triple glazing. The continual flashes from other camera users further increased the problems.

I normally keep any processing under my hat – my use of Photoshop is a ‘trade secret’! But in this case I thought I’d share what I started with; see the reflections above the skyline,¬†especially¬†in the top left? With a tripod ban it’s also hard to keep the camera stable, though I need to keep the shutter open for several seconds to create the ‘line of fire’ effect on the streets! The camera was actually resting unevenly on my Canon 5D, hence the wonky angle. In any case, I hope you appreciate the final retouched HDR Photograph (click the original below for a higher resolution version).
